Collection: Dick Patrick - Fragments

Throughout our lives we accumulate experiences in fragments. Small snippets that collect in our subconscious. Fixed but far from stagnant, what may feel like random recall, these slivers rise to the surface and inform our choices. A whisper in passing, a compliment from a friend, stern words from a teacher or a thoughtless remark from an insensitive teenager. Sometimes hurtful, sometimes caring, other times brutal. Regardless, these events leave a mark. Those fragments stay with us and alter our lives. Shaping our journey like stones in a stream. As I assemble these bits and pieces, they combine to form a whole that sometimes feels like it has a mind of its own. Symbols of the events we've built our lives around. The celebration of achievement or disappointment of failure. The joy and beauty in ordinary moments. If you look closely, I hope you find details that reflect the complexities of life and experiences that build wisdom over time. It's the process that fascinates me. Sometimes the compositions are serene and balanced while others are agitated and disturbed. I wonder if they are products of a current state of mind or memories that rise from the depths, welcome or not. Though not pre-planned, these pieces may come together quickly. Some take days, or weeks. Adding small additions or etching away layers until the whole feels complete. Not always peaceful but hopefully harmonious in its design, the process dictates the outcome. It is that very exercise in flow and being present that calls me back to begin again.
