Allison Daniell - Love Will Have the Last Word

Like many people I know, I’ve felt utterly helpless the last several years watching our rights be taken away, our public lands destroyed, and our citizens being shot in the street with no repercussions for the attackers. I also grew up in church and have been heartbroken over the Evangelical response to these atrocities and the church’s decision to repeatedly protect the powerful instead of the vulnerable (which is the opposite of what Jesus taught). Additionally, if you watch the news at all, it’s also a hellscape. We are trying to walk the line of staying informed while not putting our mental health at risk to do so! The majority of us also don’t have the power, the money, or the influence to make the changes we want to see, hold people accountable for their misdeeds, and protect the vulnerable who are being harmed more and more every day by this administration. John Lennon is thought to have said, “Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end” and this body of work was an exercise in working out my feelings of heartache and tragedy while clawing through to find hope on the other side. It is meant to be viewed in order, left to right, as oftentimes we have to deal with our feelings about the bad news before we can see the light of the good news. I hope you find some solace here if you’ve been as weary as I have. Hate will not have the last word; Love will.
