Collection: Felicia Kelly – Childless Cat Lady

Lady Liberty Was a Childless Cat Lady Too

Childless Cat Lady is a celebration of childless cat ladies, dog ladies, bird ladies, snake ladies, horse ladies, spider ladies, snail ladies, and childfree-by-choice ladies. Comments made by the current Vice President of the United States about "childless cat ladies" are not only harmful, but hurtful to those of us without children. According to the World Health Organization, 1 in 6 people globally are affected by infertility. The suggestion that only people who choose to, or are able to, have children should have full rights negates 17.5% of the adult population. Childless Cat Lady is a celebration of that 17.5% and the countless other ladies and gentlemen choosing not to have children worldwide. Every woman is a childless cat lady until she's not, and inspired by the Roman goddess Liberta, Lady Liberty was a childless cat lady too.

Felicia Kelly is first and foremost a human being. Everything she creates is made by hand, either by her, or with help from her husband, another human being. All of the materials are sourced by their hands and all of the ideas originate in her brain. Her brain, by the way, spent four years at the University of Northern Colorado along with the rest of her human body. Her art making practice is deeply shaped by education and unlearning the rules of art school. Her main inspiration is other humans, usually women, typically ones who have been silenced in some way. Her hands typed these words and her heart thanks you for reading them. You can find her in her 1920s home studio creating collages, drawing flowers, stitching fabric, painting dreamscapes, and caring for the wild birds in her backyard.
