Collection: Maggie Elligott - Wings + Petals: From Grief to Grace

Using collage, I began creating bird paintings in the wake of tragedy as a way to process grief and channel my emotions into something tangible and expressive. Birds often symbolize transformation or a connection to the spirit world, making them powerful subjects in my work. The act of creating many pieces is meditative and therapeutic, each collage a small step in a larger journey of healing. Collage, with its layers and fragments, mirrors the complexity of emotions, where disparate pieces are reassembled into something whole, even if changed.
The small works in Wings and Petals: From Grief to Grace invite viewers to closely explore the delicate details and emotions within each piece, fostering quiet contemplation and personal connection. These collages, like fragments of thought, evoke layered meanings of loss, transformation, and life's fragility. Infused with my whimsical spirit, the work encourages not just interaction with the art, but also a deeper engagement with personal emotions, memories, and experiences, creating a shared journey from grief to grace.
